Dorian De Long and the DDAM Scholarship

About the DDAM Scholarship:
The Dorian De Long Arts & Music scholarship continues Dorian's tireless advocacy for the arts in public education. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a Colorado student who pursues higher education in the arts - lord knows, the world has enough accountants.
About Dorian De Long:
12/30/1970 - 5/2/2015
All who knew Dorian experienced his irresistible spirit, hard work on behalf of others, and capacity for channelling his tremendous energy into action.
His heart's delight was his home with his beloved wife, Shaylyn and daughter Evie. Per Shaylyn, "to say Dorian was passionate about life is an understatement. He loved music, the arts, education and most of all, us. Our daughter Evie was the light of his life! He was her rock as well as her goofy playmate. His hugs made Evie and I both feel loved and safe. Dorian's love for us was unconditional".
Dorian's life's calling was education. As a social studies teacher at Thornton High School, he imbued his students with the ability to rise, take up the art of learning and thoroughly enjoy their accomplishments.
As an advocate, Dorian lobbied for the introduction and passage of House Bill 1273, encouraging all Colorado public schools to provide education in the visual and performing arts and directing the State Board of Education to recognize the importance of the arts in development of future graduation guidelines. The bill was signed into law on May 18, 2010.
"Want a nation of dolts? Just center the curriculum on technology...teach with videos, computers, and multimedia systems. Aim for the highest possible scores on standardized tests. Push aside such less vocationally applicable subjects as music, art and history. Dolts are what we will get."
- Clifford Stoll
